I like my MacBook Air more than I thought I would

qXOSrmgzP6uvqwrlng7qYWrE_500-1-20080323-202638It’s actually a whole lot cooler than I thought it would be. I’ve only had it for about 24 hours now, but the three things that surprised me

  1. The battery life is noticeably shorter than my MacBook. I used to be able to type until I was about to go blind without charging it, now I need to find an outlet right around the time my vision starts going blurry.
  2. I actually miss the disk drive. I wanted to watch some AD last night and had to wait around another 15 minutes to transfer them over WiFi instead of just grabbing the DVDs before I left the house.
  3. …and those are the only two things that bother me. I worried that the slower processor would be an issue, or perhaps the lack of ports or something. I haven’t thought about that stuff at all. Instead I’m wowed by the huge-screen, negligible weight, light-up keys (not used to that), BRIGHT display (it’s blinding, seriously) and the thinness. Oh…the thinness.

Kids going to business school are going to be buying these badboys up by the truckload. This guy is just begging to get tucked under your arm and taken to class. I’m thinking about taking mine to Easter brunch tomorrow, on the off chance I need to do any coding or something.

MacBook Air trackpad button not working properly?

I’m having an issue with the button on the trackpad on my MBA. When you press down the button it will “click” but to actually get the button to engage you have to push it down a little bit further. The only time this is an issue is when dragging with the mouse. About 50% of the time, when I’m dragging files or making selections the button will release (though I haven’t moved my thumb) resulting in dropped files in weird spots or 1/2 selected images.

Anyone else having this problem?

New Blog coming soon, for serious this time

I’ve decided to go with a fully google-free blog/pictures/etc. solution. Zenphoto for the pictures, worpress for the blog. Everything will be modeled on my friend Alex’s www.aggressiveplaid.com blog, which has recently taken a turn for the snazzy.

I’m finally starting to post new pictures

Check out my picasaweb gallery for new pictures.

I’m selling all my stuff on CraigsList

Craigslist amazes me. Stuff I put up on there goes so fast! Within only an hour or so of posting some furniture, i’ve already got tons of people sending me emails asking for details.

There is new shit going down, dude

Ok, here’s the lowdown on my new system. From henceforth I am going to be using this blog for long-winded ramblings, stories and maybe even some illustrations of dorky crap I’ve been up to. Short little links, videos, photos, etc are going to be placed on my tumble blog, pictures are going to be hosted on my picasaweb page.

Question?

Syncing gCal and iCal using BusySync

I downloaded the beta 2.0 of BusySync to try out the sync between Google Calender and iCal. Everything works just like advertised, except I ran into one problem. Google insists that I always have one calender called “Jim Kubicek”. Even though I uploaded a calender called “Home” and attempted to erase my “Jim Kubicek” calender in google, it wouldn’t let me.

The solution I found was pretty straightforward. Using BusySync, subscribe to your default calender in Google.

You’ll see it show up in iCal shortly. Select your default calender and export it.

Now just delete the “default” calender in iCal and import all the events from the calender you just exported. Easy as pie! There’s just one caveat: if you are attending any multiple person events, when you delete your calender an email will be sent to the organizers of all those events saying that you are no longer attending. I didn’t spend much time trying to figure out how to turn this off (I didn’t realize it was happening until it was too late), but if this is going to be an issue, you’ve been warned. Good luck!
