The way things will be vs. the way they were

Rumors have been floating around that Obama has bee consulting with McCain on quite a few of his appointments and McCain has stated that he would have made a lot of the same appointments if he were president-elect.

This paragraph is telling:

Mr. Obama’s cultivation of Mr. McCain is a stark contrast with the practices of past presidents. After the 2004 election, President Bush did not talk to his defeated opponent, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, until Mr. Kerry visited the White House in March 2005 as part of a large group to celebrate the Red Sox victory in the World Series. (“I like to see Senator Kerry,” Mr. Bush said, “except when we’re fixing to debate.”) And after Mr. Bush defeated Mr. McCain for the Republican nomination in 2000, the two had only perfunctory contact and often-adversarial relations for nearly two years.

It’s going to be nice to have an adult in the whitehouse for the first time in 8 years.

Apple Customer Service

There’s a reason it’s ranked best in the biz.

Two of the options are asking them to call me now, or request that they call me at some point in the future. HUZZAH! No waiting on hold.

Let’s talk about ‘Change’

What has Obama done so far as President? He’s eaten lunch, he’s poisoned Ted Kennedy’s food, he’s gone for a stroll through DC. By the way, he updated his website:

http://www.whitehouse.gov

Boy! That sure looks nice, doesn’t it. But that’s Obama… all looks, no substance. Wait what.. you say he has an official blog now? That’s certainly different. My oh my, his site even validates as correct HTML? It’s nice to see the most powerful man in the world took the time to hire some folks who actually know how to create good web sites. It’s just too bad that he doesn’t let google search his site.

Oh…. he does.

Change indeed.

Happy Inauguration Day

Stay cool, America.

I’m still not very good at taking pictures

… but I fell like I’m getting a lot better at editing the ones that I do take. Stephanie, my dad and I went to San Francisco a few months ago, here’s a selection of three images from that trip.

I’m really digging the sparse blue of the first two. Amazingly enough, the last one is unedited. It looked like that straight out of the camera. Actually, for the most part, there wasn’t much editing done on any of them.

Check out all my recent faves on my flickr account. In other photographic news, I posted a whole butt-ton of images in my general galleries. It’s the first images I’ve put up on a long time, and there’s still a lot more to go. This is due, in no small part, to the fact that we just got a table for the computer yesterday. For almost a year now I’ve been trying to use the desktop while it was perched on a cardboard box in a corner. Not the best working conditions; hence me not ever finding the time to organize and post pictures.

Apple Needs a Nikon

Daring Fireball gets it right yet again.

The point being that much of what gets chalked up as devotion to/obsession with Apple is, in fact, devotion to/obsession with great design, and there’s an utter dearth of rival PC or handheld gadget makers that value design as Apple does.

I think the Palm Pré and Windows 7 both look great*. I don’t hate Microsoft, I hate poorly designed shit… and Microsoft makes a lot of poorly designed shit.

FYI, Stephen Fry’s post is worth reading, too.

  1. Not that I don’t think Windows 7 will be chock full of ass, but MAN… the way they’ve redesigned the start bar fixes a lot of crap that’s been broken for a long time.

Moving your iTunes library to a new location

I realize this shit is posted in 1000 different places on the internets, but I wrote up some crap for friends anyway, figured I might as well post it anyway.

First, plug your old hard-drive and your new hard drive in at the same time. In iTunes open your settings, go to advanced, change the iTunes music location to the new hard drive.

Go to File -> Library -> Consolidate Library to move all your shit to the new hard-drive.

Everything will be preserved exactly as it was before.
