Cock Cock Train

In its defense, it does look pretty fun.

Old Growth Media and the Future of News

Great speech by Stephen Berlin Johnson at SXSW, posted here in full.

If only there were some institution that had a reputation for journalistic integrity that had a staff of trained editors and a growing audience arriving at its web site every day seeking quality information. If only

Of course, we have thousands of these institutions. They’re called newspapers.

The whole thing is worth a read, but this conclusion is spot-on. As the web expands further it will become harder and harder for even the web-saavy to distinguish the crackpot from the reliable reporter. I think we all have some crazy friend who sends us links to blogs “proving” that Obama is an anti-American Muslim bent on destroying the United States. As more and more folks get online it’s only going to get more difficult for people to differentiate between reality and bullshit.

Comcast doesn’t get paperless billing

Seriously guys… Thanks for letting me know via email that I have a new bill, but it doesn’t do me much good if you don’t tell me what the bill is.

The best part is that their Bill View system is down, so logging in doesn’t do me any good, I still can’t find out how much the bill is. Thanks for nothing, guys.

Mine looks like a baobab

Best Commercial of 2009?

I heartily support this kind of advertising. Mainly because being in the ad biz, I want to have the confidence to walk into a client meeting, and PITCH this with a straight face. Well done.

(ahem, baobab )

Alien

When the creature burst through the chest a stream of blood shot directly at Veronica Cartwright, shocking her enough that she fell over and went into hysterics. According to Tom Skerritt: “What you saw on camera was the real response. She had no idea what the hell happened. All of a sudden this thing just came up.”

I forgot how much I love this movie.

“You all know”

Cramer on Stewart

Jesus. Jon Stewart’s voice at 14:20 cracks. You don’t seem emotion like that from any news anchors. Ever. Except on a comedy network.

That’s fucked up.

Final Thoughts on Cramer vs. Stewart

It’s actually pretty depressing, it makes Jim Cramer seem like the kind of guy that thinks everyone likes him and then is first against the wall when things turn south.

I will not be selling my laptop to Winston

I have an old-ass Thinkpad with no hard drive which may or may not work. I decided to be generous, forgo trying to figure out exactly how much it was worth, and just give the thing away on Craigslist.

In addition to all the Craigslist retards asking how much I was selling it for (despite it being obvious that I was giving it away for free), I got Winston. Winston who creeps me the fuck out and makes me regret giving out my address in the listing*.

* I live in an apartment building, so I was in no danger of Winston finding me…. but still.
